HowtoPreparetheElectricalInstallationforSummerholidays

Summer holidays are synonymous with rest, travel and days away from home. But before closing the door, there is one point that should not be forgotten: the safety of the electrical installation.

Small precautions can help reduce unnecessary consumption, protect equipment and avoid risks during your absence. ASLO explains what you should check before going on holiday.

1. Turn off standby equipment

Televisions, computers, chargers, sound systems, extension cords, and small appliances continue to consume energy even when they are on standby.

What you should do: Before leaving, unplug all equipment that does not need to remain on.

In addition to helping to reduce electricity consumption, this practice also reduces the exposure of appliances to possible voltage variations.

2. Protect sensitive equipment from surges

During the summer, thunderstorms and oscillations in the power grid can pose a risk to more sensitive equipment, such as routers, computers, televisions, alarm systems or appliances with electronic components.

What you should do: It is important to ensure that these appliances are properly protected. Before travelling, check which equipment needs to be connected and confirm that it is protected by surge solutions.

3. Check extensions and reels used outdoors

If you use extension cords or reels on balconies, terraces, garages or covered outdoor areas, check their condition before going on holiday.

Damaged cables, broken plugs, exposed sockets or poorly packaged reels can pose risks, especially in environments subject to heat, humidity or dust.

What you should do:

  • Check that the cables do not have cuts or wear;
  • Confirm that the sockets and plugs are in good condition;
  • Avoid leaving extensions on unnecessarily;
  • Store reels in dry and protected places;
  • Never leave electrical cords exposed to rain or direct sun.

4. Program lighting to simulate presence

A house that is completely dark for several days may indicate prolonged absence. Programming a few lighting points can be a simple solution to increase the feeling of presence at home.

What you should do: Using timers or  control systems allows you to turn lights on and off at set times, creating a more natural routine during the holiday period.

 Preparing the electrical installation before the holidays is a simple way to protect the house, reduce consumption and travel with greater peace of mind.

With some preventive care and appropriate solutions from ASLO, it is possible to ensure that everything is organized, safe and ready for the period of absence.
